If you have any of the following symptoms, please consult our clinic. Breast cancer symptoms vary from person to person. Don’t hesitate to seek consultation, whether you feel discomfort in your breasts or under your arms.
• Key points for lumps or discomfort in the breast:
- Breast cancer symptoms are often noticed as a hard, painless “lump.”
- Early-stage breast cancer may be detected during a screening but may not always be physically felt.
- If the cancer is located close to the skin, a “dimple sign,” where the skin sinks in, might appear.
- Data shows that about half of breast cancer cases are discovered without symptoms.
- Other symptoms may include dull pain in the armpit or discomfort in the breast.
- Diagnosis is made through imaging tests and biopsy. However, it might also turn out to be benign tumors such as fibroadenomas, phyllodes tumors, or cysts.
• Key points for breast pain or swelling: Symptom overview: The most common symptoms seen at breast clinics are breast pain and swelling. Possible conditions:
- Mastopathy: Breast pain caused by hormone imbalance. Exclusion diagnosis if no abnormalities are found during examinations.
- Mastitis: An inflammation of the breast, commonly seen in women in their 30s and 40s, with symptoms like redness, swelling, warmth, pain, and fever.
- Non-bacterial mastitis: Often seen during breastfeeding, caused by milk stasis due to blocked ducts. Treatment mainly involves expressing milk and breast massage, but surgical drainage may be necessary if it worsens.
- Inflammatory breast cancer: The entire breast may become red and swollen. It’s caused by cancer cells infiltrating the lymphatic vessels of the breast.
Breast cancer possibility: Investigating symptoms may reveal underlying breast cancer, requiring pathological diagnosis such as biopsy. Other infection risks: Those with inverted nipples or atopic dermatitis, even if not breastfeeding, are at higher risk of developing suppurative mastitis or breast abscess, so consultation is recommended.
Based on my experience, individuals with inverted nipples, atopic dermatitis, smoking habits, diabetes, or obesity are prone to bacterial infections in the breast, even if not breastfeeding. I encourage you to consult us.
• Key points for nipple discharge or bleeding:
- General symptoms: Breasts are glandular tissues that produce milk, and nipple discharge (breast milk) can occur regardless of age. Milk is typically clear to yellowish, but attention is needed if it appears brown or red.
- Brown or red discharge: These discharges may indicate a higher likelihood of breast cancer, requiring examinations.
- Possibility of benign diseases: Conditions like intraductal papillomas may also be considered.
• Key points for nipple erosion or discomfort under the arm:
- Nipple erosion: While it may be caused by friction with undergarments, early-stage breast cancer or Paget’s disease could also be possibilities.
- Discomfort under the arm: Lymphatic stasis may lead to the discovery of breast cancer.
- Consultation recommended: Discomfort under the arm caused by lymphatic stasis in the breast may indicate breast cancer. Do not hesitate to seek advice.
• Key points for lumps in male breasts:
- Presence of glandular tissue: Men also have glandular tissues that can produce milk.
- Male breast cancer: Commonly seen in older men, with an incidence rate of approximately 0.05-0.1% compared to women. It is also observed in younger males aged 10-20 and is sometimes mistaken for growing pains.
- Gynecomastia: Regardless of age, nipple swelling and pain may occur due to an excess of male hormones.
- Risk factors:
- Smoking
- Taking supplements
- Medication for hypertension, lipid abnormalities, or anti-anxiety drugs
- Diagnostic methods: Differentiation is challenging and may require pathological diagnosis through needle biopsy.
